Today!

"Memories of my Grandma"

Guess I'm not the only one going bonkers over the elections this year.  I just saw an ad from JetBlue. They are offering free flights out of the country, if our candidate doesn't win the election : )  One thing I love about the USA is the sense of humor.

We agree budgets need to be cut.  All the nations seem to be struggling with their economies.  Our President will be making military budget cuts, before the soldiers come home.  Sometimes my mind goes into a loop trying to understand the thought processes.  Bring them home and no budget cuts will be necessary...  Maybe I'm too simplistic.  My husband yells at football on TV.  I yell at the politics.  The cats go upstairs and sleep... err hide?

I had a hard time sleeping last night, worrying about the future of the world.  Oy!  God has a plan and I need to keep the faith.  His shoulders are way more capable of carrying the weight of the world than mine.  This morning I prayed again for the military, and all these verses came to mind.  Guess He knew I needed to quit worrying!

Isaiah 43
18 Do not remember the former things,
Nor consider the things of old.
19 Behold I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert.

I shouldn't dwell in the past.  Yesterday is gone.  I don't want to miss the new stuff today.  I can shoot photos on the same trail and come up with something new everyday.

Matthew 6
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 Do not lead us into temptation.
But deliver us from the evil one.
Focus on today.  Make it the best today ever.  I thank God for all we have today.

34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Tomorrow isn't here and what I do today, will impact tomorrow.  I need to get some paintings done.  Gotta keep shooting those photos.  Still praying for Israel and the military.

My Grandma was good at keeping busy.  She watched sports while knitting, crocheting, or tatting.  One game on the TV, another on the radio.  She was born in 1896. I don't remember seeing her worried.  She didn't seem to have time for that.  Yet, she experienced some real adventures in her life.  The first man on the moon, a world war, the depression, the first TV sets, the hippies...

Jeremiah 29
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Things will work out for us too.  Here on earth, or in Heaven.

Feel free to comment if you think of something : )

  1. Why can't God just do like He did in the Bible. Send us judges or kings. It would be much better than having us choose between "thing one or thing two."

  2. That would be so nice! I watched the debates last night and was very impressed by Romney. He said the military needs to have the most respect in the USA. They need to be taken care of financially and in all ways. I was so happy. We can still pray before elections. But it would be awesome to have God as our ruler instead of a man wouldn't it? That's how it was originally. But man asked for a KIng (sigh).

Not sure Obama really understands the military is our brothers, sisters, children, parents... They aren't just tin soldiers. My family came on the Mayflower and each generation has served in the military. I am so relieved after last night.

I'll keep praying and asking God to reveal the truth to us. So we can make a wise choice.

Thanks MC your words got me thinking. God bless!

  3. Hi Karen,
Worry is something I struggle with. Oh boy, as I look at all the things going on in this world right now, I just don't know what to think. It sure looks like we will be going over a financial cliff at some point in the near future unless some drastic changes are made, and quickly. Then the threat of war and no telling what else. But you are so right, God has a plan. He will work everything out. No need to worry, but trust God.
Thank you for sharing and God bless,
    Ken

  5. Hi Karen...I can sure relate to your frustration. I just told my husband that I am bracing for what the world will do when December 21 rolls around this year...it might get a little crazy out there...remember the may 21 prediction last year? Well, it is too much for us to worry over, that is why God promises to handle it all for us. We need our sense of humor, not only through the politics of our country/world, but through it all. My hubby went to pay our propane bill today and came out with a 2013 calendar..I commented that they must be optimistic...I would have told them that I was considering not even paying them (just in case December 22 didn't come around)! LOL...we can laugh because we know God is in control. ~God Bless~ Lisa

  6. Amen Lisa! Hahaha I love it. "Sorry we don't feel the need to pay the bills. You see there might not be any need for propane..." I'm with you God is in control : ) Humor has helped my family in so many ways. It's a wonderful gift from God because He is in control. Thanks!
