We can do it!

This morning I was making pot roast in the Crockpot. I do my best thinking while my hands are busy hahaha.  Cooking is a necessity for me, not something I really enjoy.  When my husband smiles, it makes me happy.  I have collected several quick fix, nutritious recipes (I might post some on the side of my blog).

As I sliced carrots and celery, I was thinking about our economy.  I mentioned working for The Boeing Company before.  The upcoming defense contract cuts are going to raise unemployment and can cause some serious damage in the states.  There was a time when Seattle lost so many jobs a billboard was put up which read, "Will the last one out turn off the lights please?"

So, Romney is right, investing in defense helps in more ways than just military status.  The fact that Seattle and Boeing, are still here  is a good reminder that our stubborn, hard-working people are survivors.  We've been here before and we'll get through this.  Remember Rosie the Riveter?  This was used in World War II and still inspires me.  Yeah!  I know God, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."  Philippians 4:13

I keep thinking about Savings Bonds too.  When I was at Boeing we had the option to purchase Savings Bonds through our paychecks.  They are great.  We were able to move from Seattle, WA to New Jersey with the money I'd saved.  Plus it puts money back into our National Treasury.  It was started by Franklin D. Roosevelt, in 1935, and contributed billions of dollars to offset the costs of World War II.  Parents could buy a $25 bond for children, put them aside, and have some college  or wedding money for the kids when they grew up.  I would love to see our government focus on these again rather than hospital fines or insurance.  These fines could bring more unemployment to the healthcare industry.

Unemployment is hard on people.  Even though I've graduated from NYIP, at age 52, I catch myself feeling unemployed.  It's different from business for sure, much more relaxing and satisfying.  The truth is I have a career, just need to keep at it.  I've earned some money so far.  "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."  Philippians 4:13

My heart goes out to those who are unemployed.  I know what it is to have to look through the Want Ads one more time, each day.  I contracted a lot, which meant lots of searching between jobs.  It's not fun.  God hasn't forgotten you, He has a plan.  You are not a failure, just out of work.  Never give up.  We all need to think new thoughts, and come up with creative ideas for careers these days.  One guy started a snow shoveling business.  He was out of work and got busy shoveling.

3 cheers for the cheerleaders who are putting up banners with Bible verses on them, at football games!  That's great!  It seems God is getting His Word out in all sorts of places : )  They never thought they couldn't do it, so they did.

  1. My heart goes out to those who are unemployed as well...I can't imagine the fear and the inner struggle that must take place in the hearts of those who have a family to support but no way of doing so or even just themselves to care for. Praying for a turn around in that area soon.

  2. Thanks for your comment Colleen. It makes a person feel like a failure, but they're really not. I'm praying too. It's not just us that's hurting either. All the nations are struggling.

  4. That's for sure Lisa! We've been cutting back on unnecessary stuff- didn't even realize we didn't need them lol. Our faith does grow through hard times. Like the verse that says, "As iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another." Yeah the girls in Texas decided they would put verses on banners to inspire their HIgh School football team. It's catching on- I heard some of the other team cheerleaders are going to jump in. Some group called, "Freedom from Religion" in another state got upset... But the Bill of Rights says, "Freedom of religion." So Texas said they could keep going.

    1. Leave it to Texas! I wouldn't wanna challenge them if I were that freedom from religion group...Texans are a tough bunch, when it comes to their rights trying to be taken away, LOL!
