Emergency kit

God's Word is timeless, it's an Emergency Kit addressing all our spiritual needs.  I smiled as I read this section of Psalm 119.   In these verses the author, hangs on to these words for dear life, they rejuvenate him, he watches for God's "ancient landmark words."  I do too.  When I pray I watch for His answer- sometimes it's yes, no, or later.  But He always answers.  The author thinks about God's Word at night, he sings it.  Like us he lived in a time of confusion, and derision.  Today Christians are sometimes misunderstood, and blamed for the strangest things.  There were a few months, that if a Politician's idea wasn't accepted, he'd say it was the Christians.  We shouldn't lose heart though, blame gets passed around in our society- next it was the Republicans and so on...  The author found counsel in the Word.  I love it when we sing songs from the Bible.  In college, we'd fill the auditorium with the most beautiful choruses, with a simple guitar or no instruments at all.  It was beautiful.

Psalms 119:49-56

49 Remember what you said to me, your servant
I hang on to these words for dear life!
50 These words hold me up in bad times;
yes, your promises rejuvenate me.
51 The insolent ridicule me without mercy,
but I don't budge from your revelation.
52 I watch for your ancient landmark words,
and know I'm on the right track.
53 But when I see the wicked ignore your directions,
I'm beside myself with anger.
54 I set your instructions to music
and sing them as I walk this pilgrim way.
55 I meditate on your name all night, God,
treasuring your revelation, O God.
56 Still, I walk through a rain of derision
because I live by your Word and counsel.
THE MESSAGE

Here's a few of my favorite emergency verses I've memorized.
When I'm thinking about the past too much-
Isaiah 43:18-19
18 Forget the former things;
       do not dwell on the past.
 19 See, I am doing a new thing!
       Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
       I am making a way in the desert
       and streams in the wasteland.

When I'm confused as to what to do-
Prov 3:5-6
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
       and lean not on your own understanding (to me this is worries);
 6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
       and he will make your paths straight.

  1. Karen, it is true that God does answer you , no, yes or later!And we should always put it in our heads and hearts that it is only him who can put our lives(paths)right no matter how hard we think or plan (worries). Thanks for constantly sharing spiritual wealth. Have a great weekend!

  5. "I wish I could say that I always do what God says to do. But I must admit, sometimes I don't"

    Wow, Karen, those words grabbed my attention straight away. I know just where you are coming from!!

    I have found that the closer I get to the Lord, the more of those 'nudges' I obey.
    I am always pleasantly surprised, with the outcome of my obedience, no matter how foolish the request may seem to me at the time. :)

    Great post, I followed you over from lionseagle.

    God Bless

  6. Hi Carole- nice to meet you! I think the best days are when you don't even notice the nudge you just do it. I'm very grateful for God's patience :) Thanks very much for your comment.
