Hidden treasure

Ok, so I thought I'd just pull out the verses that stand out in Proverbs.  Problem is, they all stand out!  So I'll break it down into chunks instead. : )  The part that really stood out to me was in verse 4.  Seek understanding as you would look for silver or hidden treasure.  The Bible has so much hidden treasure.  It takes some time but there's always treasure.  I've found so much courage, hope and strength in God's Word.  That's why I originally started this blog.  I wanted to share how awesome the Bible really is, God is.  There are some hard places in the Bible, but the treasure is well worth it.

Proverbs 2:1-8

So many action words here: accept, store up, listen, apply, call out, cry, look for it, search.  Like any relationship, I get out what I put into my relationship with God (actually more).  I think understanding is key in all our relationships.
1 My son, if you accept my words
and store up,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Here's a beautiful promise.  Proverbs has some of my favorite verses.  Part of seeing His blessing, is understanding what success really is.
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
NIV

Here's another of my favorite verses. If we seek Him we will find Him, any day, any hour.
Deuteronomy 4:29
29 But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.
NIV

  1. A couple of years ago, I spent one entire Sunday afternoon going thru Proverbs and writing down those verses that meant the most to me. It is about 8 single spaced typewritten pages. I've still got those pages around here and refer to them often.

  3. Hi Karen,
Thanks for your comment on my blog. I love love love the book of proverbs! I agree it is well worth a little digging to find the treasures sometimes hidden in the Bible. I think God did it that way because it is so ingrained in us to be curious, and love to solve puzzles, and understand complicated things. Perhaps He made us that way so we would not get too easily bored and become complacent. Good Post and illustration.

  4. Thanks Lisa! I agree. He knows we need a challenge. I realized too, that the treasure shines brightest in the darkness. Sometimes the most wonderful treasure is found in man's darkest hours. God bless- and thanks for your comment.
