I tend to want to jump into my work like I did in an office but there's other things to do too. : ) I read a book on Freelancing and learned this is common for creative people transitioning from office work. It's not at all unusual to leave an office anxious to paint, only to come home and stare blankly at the computer. We get used to being told what to do.
One of the things the book mentioned is to turn off the computer when I'm not using it. It's like TV I get dazed and my attention gets captured. I jump into the web look for one thing, then another. Sit back and wonder where my day went! There are lots of sideshow distractions in our generation. This verse promises if we focus, and watch what we're doing, God's plan will stretch out before us.
I think it applies to all aspects of our lives. We can always ask the Holy Spirit to speak to us and help us focus too.
I shot this photo at Ocean Grove in New Jersey. I thought it would be cool to get an angle shot from the boardwalk up. And then people started showing up, the only one looking straight ahead is the lady on the left. The boardwalk symbolizes the road we follow, the plan God has for each of us. It's right in front of us, but we tend to look in other directions.

Distractions do keep us from seeing Jesus clearly. Staying in the Word always helps my eyes where they need to be...on his activity, not my own!:)
ReplyDeleteThat's for sure. I have verses all over my drafting table. In fact, the one on the photo is one of them : ) Thanks for your comment Kelli!
ReplyDeleteI love the photo and the verse together...what a perfect post for Wordfilled Wednesday!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this photo and the application is perfect! I'm taking this one with me...I too find myself distracted and it's only in HIS Word that my eyes stay fixed obediently on what HE has for me...I get it...I totally get it!
ReplyDeletepeace,
lori
So glad it blessed you Alida and Lori : ) May God bless you abundantly!
ReplyDeleteI always feel great when i visit your blog Karen, and its good to look at it from your point of view, God does feel bad when we cant concentrate on him and him alone. Thank you for pointing it out. And yes, i will be asking the holy spirit to help me concentrate :) God Bless.
ReplyDeleteThanks Murugi! I'll be asking the Holy Spirit for words and focus today too. God bless!
ReplyDeleteYes, focus is so important as long as it is balanced out with out aspects of His Word and Will and doesn't become legalistic or obsessive. I have tended to overdue some things (especially when I was younger) to the neglect of others..So now I am always praying about getting it in proper perspective. Blessings. J.
ReplyDeleteooops, should read with OTHER aspects of His Word and Will and not WITHOUT ..That will teach me to reread things before not after I post. Sorry,Karen, and everyone, J..
ReplyDeleteThanks J! No worries... I've come out here and reread a post a time or two only to realize I'd written what I meant backwards : ) Just shows He's God and we're not! But yes your point is well taken. Reading the Bible and discerning His Will for me, has helped me in all areas of my life: work, play, family, Church. Everything. But if I only read the Word, I wouldn't be believing it. And we'd also be hungry! Balance is so important for us.
ReplyDeleteI can sure relate to the part about wondering where my day went after sitting at the computer! One thing I miss about the office is the discipline of how to use my time. I lack discipline in that area I'm afraid. Good post Karen!
ReplyDelete~God Bless~
